McKenzie Craft x Centennial Village

McKenzie Craft is proud to contribute to one of the University of Miami’s most significant campus developments in recent history: Centennial Village, a multi-phase residential community celebrating the university’s 100th anniversary. The project spans over 671,000 square feet and will house approximately 2,100 students across multiple residential colleges, combining living, learning, and gathering spaces into a connected, student-focused environment.

The Centennial Village development includes a mix of living-learning spaces, private bathrooms, shared kitchenettes, classrooms, dining areas, and communal spaces, all designed to foster interaction, engagement, and wellness for first-year students. The campus layout emphasizes accessibility and connection, with the Canal Walk site linking residential, academic, and pedestrian spaces along a shared waterfront, creating an active and visually engaging environment.

McKenzie Craft’s scope for this project covers custom millwork and metalwork throughout three new dorm buildings. Our work is focused primarily on common areas such as lobbies, upper-floor gathering spaces, and select staff apartments. Each element is crafted with precision to meet both the functional demands of high-traffic areas and the aesthetic intent of the architectural designs. This includes staircases, wall paneling, reception desks, banquettes, column wraps, vanities, kitchens, concrete countertops, and other custom casework—all integrated seamlessly into the overall design.

The project is being executed in collaboration with Coastal Construction, the general contractor, and follows architectural guidance from VMDO and Zyscovich, both nationally recognized firms. This partnership ensures that every fabricated element meets stringent quality standards while aligning with the project’s modern, lakefront-inspired design language. Centennial Village also emphasizes sustainability, with the development pursuing LEED Gold certification and incorporating energy-efficient systems and natural materials to create healthy, comfortable spaces for residents.

By participating in this large-scale project, McKenzie Craft demonstrates its ability to manage complex, multi-building fabrication packages while collaborating closely with architects and contractors before and during the construction process. Centennial Village represents a milestone in higher-education housing, and our contribution helps bring to life functional, visually striking spaces that will serve the University of Miami community for decades.
