¿Puedes contarnos un poco sobre tu trayectoria y cómo llegaste a McKenzie Craft?

Originalmente comencé en la industria de la restauración, pero estaba buscando un puesto que ofreciera más oportunidades. Mi oportunidad llegó a través de la madre de un primo, que ya estaba trabajando aquí. Ella me recomendó, y después de esa llamada inicial, me invitaron a unirme al equipo. Todo sucedió hace aproximadamente un año, ¡y no he mirado atrás!

¿En qué tipo de trabajo te enfocas aquí?

¡Me especializo en un poco de todo! Mis tareas principales incluyen preparar madera, lijar y recortar. Pero la verdad es que disfruto haciendo todo lo que sea necesario para asegurar que el proyecto sea perfecto, incluso me encargo de algunas tareas que otros prefieren evitar. Me encanta particularmente la preparación de puertas; siento que he dominado realmente ese proceso.

¿Cuál ha sido el proyecto más gratificante que has completado aquí y qué hace que esta compañía se destaque?

¡Los proyectos más gratificantes son siempre los que resultan más hermosos! Aprecio la calidad y el cuidado que se pone en cada pieza. El equilibrio entre la vida laboral y personal es súper importante para mí, por lo que valoro estar en un lugar donde siento que eso se apoya.

¿Cómo te ves creciendo dentro de McKenzie Craft en el futuro?

Estoy dedicada a continuar mi crecimiento profesional. Aunque amo el trabajo manual y prefiero mantenerme en el área de producción en lugar de la gestión, me encantaría la oportunidad de seguir ampliando mis conocimientos y mi experiencia en el área de acabados. Quiero saber lo más posible sobre mi área de especialización porque me encanta llevar la calidad al máximo, y deseo seguir contribuyendo a nuestro éxito de la manera más práctica posible.

¿Cómo ha sido la experiencia de ser mujer en esta industria y qué mensaje tienes para otras mujeres que estén considerando este tipo de trabajo?

Al principio, la gente, incluso compañeros de otros sitios, se sorprendían al ver a una mujer haciendo este tipo de trabajo manual de acabado. Pero lo bueno ha sido ganarme su respeto a través de mi habilidad y dedicación. Ahora, me siento verdaderamente parte del equipo. Mi mensaje para otras mujeres es: ¡No dejen que la etiqueta de 'pesado' les asuste! Este trabajo es físicamente exigente, sí, pero es increíblemente gratificante. Encuentras dónde sobresales y lo dominas. Estar atrapado en una oficina no es para todos; si te encanta ser activa y crear, ¡puedes dominar absolutamente este campo!

¿Hay algo que la gente fuera de la compañía no se dé cuenta sobre el trabajo que haces?

No siempre ven la presión y el enfoque intenso que se requiere para asegurar que todo sea perfecto. Solo ven el producto terminado y hermoso. Lo que me encanta es el impulso que hay aquí para mejorar constantemente. Siempre nos estamos esforzando para mejorar la calidad y asegurar que cada pieza sea impecable.

In a field often dominated by men, Yolanda has successfully cultivated her expertise and become a highly valued craftsperson. We sat down with her to discuss her experience, the work she finds most rewarding, and the mindset that drives her success at McKenzie Craft.

Can you tell us a little about your journey and how you found your way to McKenzie Craft?

I originally started out in the restaurant industry, but I was looking for a role that offered more opportunity. My break came through the mother of a cousin, who was already working here. She recommended me, and after that initial call, I was invited to join the team. It all happened about a year ago, and I haven't looked back!

What kind of work do you focus on here?

I specialize in a little bit of everything! My core tasks include preparing wood, sanding, and trimming. But the truth is, I enjoy doing whatever is needed to ensure the project is perfect, even handling some of the tasks others might avoid. I particularly love the door preparation; I feel like I've really mastered that process.

What has been the most fulfilling project you've completed here, and what makes this company stand out?

The most fulfilling projects are always the ones that turn out the most beautiful! I appreciate the quality and care that goes into every piece. Work-life balance is super important to me, so I like being in a place where I feel like that is supported.

How do you see yourself growing with McKenzie Craft in the future?

I'm dedicated to continuing my professional growth. While I love the hands-on work and prefer to stay on the production side rather than management, I would love the opportunity to keep expanding my knowledge and expertise in the finishing area. I want to know as much as possible about my area of expertise because I love pursuing quality to the max, and I want to keep contributing to our success in the most hands-on way possible.

What has the experience been like being a woman in this industry, and what message do you have for other women considering this line of work?

In the beginning, people, even colleagues from other sites, were surprised to see a woman doing this kind of hands-on finishing work. But what's been great is earning their respect through my skill and dedication. Now, I feel truly part of the team. My message to other women is: Don't let the 'heavy' label scare you off! This work is physically demanding, yes, but it’s incredibly rewarding. You find where you excel and you master it. Being stuck in an office isn't for everyone; if you love being active and creating, you can absolutely dominate this field.

Is there anything people outside the company don't realize about the work you do?

They don't always see the pressure and the intense focus it takes to ensure everything is perfect. They only see the finished, beautiful product. What I love is the drive here to constantly improve. We're always pushing ourselves to enhance quality and ensure every piece is flawless.
